§ 5.04.010. Definitions.

  • The following definitions shall be used in interpreting this chapter.

    (a)

    "Sanitation technician" means the city official or employee of the city delegated and authorized to administer Union Gap Municipal Code Title 5.

    (b)

    "Commercial refuse" means all solid wastes which originate in businesses, office buildings, stores, markets, theaters, and other buildings. Commercial refuse may be classified as either "garbage" or "rubbish."

    (c)

    "Rubbish" means all sweepings, cleanings, trash, rubbish, litter, tin cans, broken crockery, glassware, waste paper, waste building materials, containers, bottles, ashes, castoff clothing, metal, wire, and all other nonputrescible or other discarded material or debris.

    (d)

    "Garbage" means all putrescible animal, fish, food, fowl, fruit, grain, or vegetable matter resulting from the preparation, storage, handling, decay or use thereof, and all organic and inorganic waste.

    (e)

    "Recyclable material" means all material which would otherwise be defined as garbage or rubbish, but which meet any of the following criteria:

    (1)

    Material required to be recycled under state, federal law or county law;

    (2)

    Material required to be recycled pursuant to that Solid Waste Interlocal Agreement recorded by the Yakima County Auditor on November 26, 1991 as Auditor's Number 2942774; or

    (3)

    Material jointly agreed by the parties to be "recyclable material," as follows:

    (A)

    Clear glass;

    (B)

    Aluminum cans;

    (C)

    Newspaper.

    (f)

    "Residential yard waste" means grass clippings, leaves, and other similar vegetative yard waste originating from residences, but does not include garbage, twigs, and other woody matter.
